Yoga For Fertility

by Carolyn Weatherson

Infertility is a painful subject for many couples.  The cause of infertility may not be stress, but stress will likely

result from the unfulfilled desire to conceive.  The resulting stress will exacerbate the problem and negatively affect

the body's hormonal balance.  This vicious circle can be broken with the aid of Yoga.

Everyone trying to conceive will have been told numerous times about the statistics regarding couples

who adopt and suddenly conceive because the pressure is off.  It is one thing to know something intellectually and

another to teach your mind and body to deeply relax.  This is a skill that takes practice to master, much like playing

the piano.  Telling someone to "just relax" (even with the best of intentions) will likely cause them more anxiety.  They

will feel that they are not living up to your expectations, that it is their fault, and be frustrated by the lack of

understanding regarding the depth of their emotional pain.

Yoga has a way of stepping off the mat with you and leaking into your every day life.  Quieting the mind and toning

the body will keep your precious hormonal system in balance.  A well-designed yoga class will increase blood flow to

your organs, stimulate and rebalance your glandular system, create a feeling of strength and calm, all the while

banishing negative chatter from the mind.   There are specific poses which target the reproductive organs and pelvic

area creating more circulation and energy there.  Such as Supported Bridge, Cobblers' Pose and Legs up the Wall

Pose.  Feel free to contact me and talk about it.  You may like to try one of my many drop-in classes, or if your stress

has snowballed, I recommend taking my session for Panic Attack & Anxiety Relief, even if you haven't experienced

panic attacks.  In this class we will work on the skills to free yourself from anxiety.

I would be honoured to help ease you through this difficult time.
